A sense of home
I believe that wherever we live, nothing is more important that feeling at home. Even the most refined design may lose purpose and significance if it does not reflect the identity of those who live in it. Similarly, we may create a welcoming sense of belonging for ourselves through simple – even humble- elements. Through our details.
In my home in Copenhagen, I have created a small garden on the 5th floor, integrating in the architectural context and climatic environment many details which bring me back to my roots. For instance, terracotta pots, vegetables like tomatoes, salads, chilies, strawberries, even potatoes.. a Venetian lantern.. a door stopper bought by my mother in Taormina, Sicily. The article hereunder was published in the Danish magazine Mad og Bolig a few years ago. It is entitled “Italian roof garden ” and captures this concept: bringing in our gown what represents us. Traveling light through life, but bringing with us the essentials and define and describe who we are.
